The original Qubix building was designed in 1976 by architect Jan Štípek for the Transport Ministry of former Czechoslovakia and it was completed in 1979. Under the general contract for complete delivery of the project the building was fully renovated between 2010 and 2012 by S+B Plan & Bau Czech Republic, which is part of the S+B Gruppe, Austria.
As part of the restoration that was carried out with very high standard of alterations the building was “stripped bare” to the level of load-bearing structure. The restoration comprised also the new façade of the building, with newly installed vast glazed areas (the-so called monitors) that utilise unique technology which reflects solar radiation (reduced costs of cooling in summer months), entire renovation and modernisation of interiors, new technology that meets requirements for smart building operation, lifts, electrical wiring, etc. Prestigious architectural design studio led by famous Vienna-based architect professor Ernst Hoffmann participated in the redevelopment of the building.
